Laparoscopic Sleeve Gastrectomy
Gastric sleeve surgery is a bariatric procedure in which 80 to 85 percent of the stomach is removed in a vertical fashion, leaving behind a banana-like tube or “sleeve” that creates a restrictive process in which patients can not eat nearly as much as before. Because the intestines are not rerouted, absorption problems are uncommon and there are no food restrictions. In addition, the removal of this portion of the stomach also leads to a decreased concentration of ghrelin, the hunger stimulating hormone, which ultimately decreases one’s appetite.

Gastric bypass (or Roux-en-Y procedure) is a minimally invasive surgery through which we create a smaller stomach and bypass a portion of the small intestine.
